Veterinary drug: Fenbendazole is a veterinary drug. It is not approved for use in humans.

Before you act: Don't stop, replace, or delay any cancer treatment without talking to your oncologist.

“FBZ appears to be a potentially safe and effective antineoplastic agent that can be repurposed for human use in treating genitourinary malignancies.”

Evidence level

CASE REPORT (case series, 3 patients).

Funding

No funding statement found.

What was published

A case series of three patients with genitourinary cancers (incl. renal cell and urothelial carcinoma) who took fenbendazole alone or alongside standard therapy.

What it shows

The authors describe three patients "who demonstrated complete response after receiving FBZ therapy as a single or supplementary chemotherapeutic agent"; two had progressed "despite multiple lines of therapy." "No side effects from FBZ were reported."

What it does not show

Three uncontrolled cases cannot show fenbendazole caused the responses; some patients had recently received other therapies (e.g. immunotherapy) whose effects can be delayed.

Documented counterpoints

Published in a small open-access journal, not the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The authors themselves say "further research is necessary."
